The 30-Day Content Calendar Framework for Nigerian Brands
Most brand pages don't die from a bad post — they die from running out of ideas by the second week and going quiet. The 70-20-10 rule fixes that before it starts.
The 70-20-10 rule
Split every month of content into three buckets by purpose, not by platform:
- 70% — Value content. Educates, entertains, or helps your audience. No direct sell.
- 20% — Curated or relatable content. Trends, reposts, behind-the-scenes, things that build personality.
- 10% — Direct promotion. Product posts, offers, direct calls to buy.
Most brand pages that struggle have this ratio backwards — 80% "buy now" and 20% everything else — which trains followers to scroll past every post, because they've learned there's nothing in it for them.
Turn the ratio into a real 30-day calendar
For roughly 20 posts a month (about 5 a week), the 70-20-10 split looks like this:
| Bucket | Posts/month | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Value (70%) | 14 | Tips, how-tos, myth-busting, FAQs, tutorials |
| Relatable (20%) | 4 | Trends, memes adapted to your niche, team/BTS content |
| Promo (10%) | 2 | Product launches, discounts, direct CTAs |
Plan the promo posts first — they're usually tied to a specific date or offer — then fill the value and relatable slots around them.
Where the content pillars come from
Before you can fill 14 value posts a month, you need 3-4 content pillars — recurring themes your brand can always speak to. For a Lagos skincare brand, that might be: skin education, ingredient myths, customer transformations, and self-care routines. Every value post should map to one of these, so the page has a consistent identity instead of feeling random.
Mon — Ingredient myth (value) · Tue — Trending audio adapted to skincare routine (relatable) · Wed — Customer skin transformation (value) · Thu — New product restock alert (promo) · Fri — "Ask us anything" skin Q&A (value)
Why this beats posting whatever comes to mind
Without a framework, most people either overproduce promo content (which followers tune out) or run out of ideas and go silent for a week (which the algorithm punishes even harder). A calendar built on 70-20-10 means you always know what today's post's *job* is before you write it — which is most of the work of content creation already done.
